Joseph DiBernardo
ARMY
1959-1961
Joe DiBernardo, born April 18, 1936, is a proud U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Born to Sicilian immigrants in Chicago, Joe's upbringing was steeped in the values of resilience, gratitude, and patriotism. His father worked in the steel mills and alongside his mother, instilled in their children a deep appreciation for the opportunities afforded by their adopted homeland. Growing up the youngest of two brothers and a sister, Joe witnessed firsthand the commitment to duty and honor as both brothers followed the path of service, serving their country with distinction. Beyond his military service, Joe found love and companionship in his wife of now 64 years, Melanie. Together, they raised their three children, Melanie, Joe, and Tiffany, with a profound reverence for the blessings bestowed upon them by this great nation. Their daughter, Tiffany, stands as a testament to their values, serving as the Mayor of Cedar Rapids. Throughout his life, Joe's story exemplifies the resilience and strength of the American spirit, shaped by the sacrifices of immigrant parents, the bonds of family, and a steadfast commitment to the ideals of freedom and democracy.
