Edward Johnson

ARMY
1968-1995

Ed was born in Detroit, Michigan, but settled in Missouri, where Ed graduated high school in St. Louis in 1963 before earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rolla Missouri College in 1968. He went on to receive an MBA from Webster College in 1977 and a Master of International Studies from the Command & General Staff College in 1988. Ed married his wife in 1968, and they had two daughters who gave them six grandchildren; he lost his wife in 2018. He served in the U.S. Army for 27 years, retiring in 2005 as a Lieutenant Colonel, with deployments in Vietnam, Colorado Springs, Italy, Cedar Rapids, and Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. While stationed in Cedar Rapids, he worked as a Systems Engineer at Rockwell Collins until his retirement in 2005. A fascinating fact about Ed’s life is that he survived two helicopter incidents—one over a firefight in Vietnam and another in an Illinois cornfield—both without injury.
