Frank Neustel

Army
1964-1968

Frank Neustel was born on December 23, 1942, in Marion, Iowa, to Allan and Nancy Neustel. He is the oldest of five children, with siblings Bill, Linda, Buster, and Betty. Frank grew up on the family farm north of Alburnett, where he helped with farm chores and activities. In his free time, he enjoyed horseback riding and go-cart racing. He graduated from Troy Mills High School in 1961.

He served in the Army with the Army Security Agency (ASA) from 1964 to 1968 and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he pursued his passion for racing, driving the #19 stock car on various dirt tracks in eastern Iowa.

On September 26, 1970, Frank married Kathy Carson, and in 1972, they welcomed their daughter, Tracie. He worked at Wilson's Meat Packing Plant, later known as Farmstead, in Cedar Rapids for nearly 30 years until the plant shut down. Following that, he transitioned to an over-the-road trucking career in 1990, driving for several companies, including ADM. He eventually spent over a decade with LandStar before retiring in 2014. Also while working at the packing plant and later driving truck, Frank and Kathy were very active on their farm raising crops as well as a variety of animals over the years including beef cattle, pigs, chickens, horses and even buffalo for several years.

Frank became a proud grandfather when his grandsons, Mason and Brodie, were born in 2004 and 2006. He has cherished spending time with them and creating lasting memories. For over ten years, he and Kathy have enjoyed spending their winter months with friends and family at a resort near Casa Grande, Arizona, while staying active on their farms west of Central City when in Iowa.
