Juan Vega
Army
2008-2012
Juan grew up in Cedar Rapids & joined the army in 2008 as a combat engineer. He was motivated by selfless acts of service and wanting to become a part of something bigger than himself. He also possessed a strong desire to be part of the reason our country remained safe. Juan served for four years in total, and eight months of that time was spent in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Juan cleared thousands of kilometers of roadside bombs and was involved in four separate IED explosions. Juan got out of the military in 2012 and returned to his family with a renewed sense of pride in himself, and in his country.
