Allen Neff was born on November 2, 1948, to Miles and Anna Neff in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was one of five children. He attended Regis Catholic High School and graduated in 1967. After high school Allen enlisted in the United States Navy on December 8, 1967. He attended Hospital Corpsman School in San Diego, CA before he was transferred to the US Naval Hospital in Queens, NY. After that, he went to Clinical Lab School and became a lab technician. He was then reassigned to the Military Induction Station at Newark, NJ as a laboratory assistant. He then transferred again to the ship USNS Barrett for deployment to Vietnam for one year. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Honorable Discharge Certificate. He was discharged on August 1, 1973. He married Maureen Henesy on June 13, 1970, and they had two children: Allison and John, both raised in Cedar Rapids, IA. He spent his career as a millwright and owner of Neff Metal Products and Millwright Service until retirement in 2014. He is blessed with three grandchildren: Tyler, Serene, and Isabelle. Allen currently resides in Cedar Rapids, IA.
