Miles H. Neff

Miles Neff was born on April 3, 1917, in North English, IA to Frank and Mary Neff. He was the youngest of three children and grew up in Parnell, IA. He attended Parnell High School and graduated in 1935. After high school, he worked as a welder for the LaPlant-Choate Manufacturing Company, Inc. He worked there for three years prior to being drafted on July 3, 1943. He served in the Army Air Corp in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with three battle stars, the Philippine Liberation ribbon with one battle star, World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 17, 1945. He married Anna D. Phillip on January 10, 1942, and raised five children in Cedar Rapids, IA: Edward, Terry, Delores, Allen, and Roberta. Miles ran and operated Neff Metal Products and Millwright Service based in Marion, IA until retirement in 1993. He was blessed with 15 grandchildren, and he was a charter member of St. Pius Catholic Church and the VFW Post 788. Miles passed away on May 18, 2005.
