CPL. Patrick F. McDermott
ARMY
1951-1953
Patrick Francis McDermott was born March 17, 1929. His mother was going to name him Thomas and a nurse said, “you have to name him Patrick as he was born on St. Patrick’s Day”. He was the son of John & Rosemary (Murphy) McDermott. He was the oldest and only son, they then had 3 girls: Donnie, Mary, and Sara McDermott. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and was known as P.F. (professional fisherman) as he loved fishing and his annual trips to Canada every year. He married Rita Zobl on May 17, 1951. He attended St. Pat’s school and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He worked at Rockwell Collins for 38 years before retiring. He was the father of 5 children: Katheleen, Michael, Eileen, Edward, and Loreen McDermott—all of Cedar Rapids. One grandchild, Benjamin Dirks of Ft. Worth, TX. He passed away December 9th, 2011. He is greatly missed.
