1966-1968
William W. (Bill) Weininger was born on the family farm near Center Point, IA in 1944, the son of Vernon and Rose Weininger. He has two older sisters. He attended school at Walker and graduated from Troy Mills High School in 1963. Bill worked side by side with his parents on the farm, where he learned to drive a tractor at a very young age. He enjoyed boating, hunting, and fishing, and still likes to fish whenever he can. Bill attended Cedar Rapids Business College, and worked at Younkers at Lindale Mall, where he met his wife, Diann. They will celebrate 57 years of marriage this summer. Bill entered the Army in 1966 during the Vietnam war. He was stationed at Fort Hood, TX with the First Armored Division, where he was first a cook, then battery clerk. He was honorably discharged in 1968. William and Diann have two sons and four grandkids. Spending time with family is the absolute best thing there is! Bill retired from United Fire and Casualty Company in 2010 and enjoys traveling and getting together with family and friends. He likes talking with other veterans at the Freedom Foundation and was honored to go on the 48th Eastern Iowa Honor Flight to Washington DC in September 2023.
